  • Examines in exhaustive detail the lives and careers of 23 men (from Adolf Heinz Beckerle through Kurt Günther) who held the rank of SA-Obergruppenführer

  • Includes over 500 photos, many of them rare and unpublished

  • Draws on an abundance of translated documents, letters, and speeches, giving valuable insight into the mindsets and attitudes of the Storm Troop leaders

  • An entirely unique book created by researchers who have devoted decades to researching the topic

  • 'I know of no comparable compilation' — Sir Ian Kershaw

Although some of the SA’s leadership fell victim to the purge of June/July 1934, most continued to serve until the very end and in a broad range of assignments. Here you will meet several individuals whose service to the SA was mostly honorary—men such as Dr. Hans Frank, master of the Nazi legal profession and notorious Generalgouverneur of occupied Poland, General Franz Ritter von Epp, head of the Reich Colonial League, and the infamous Gauleiter of Upper Austria, August Eigruber. Others, such as Herbert Fust, Kurt Günther, and the historian Dr. Heinrich Bennecke, were committed full-time to their respective SA commands. This is the first of three volumes examining in unique detail the men who held the rank of SA-Obergruppenführer in Hitler’s original paramilitary force.
